Heavy Equipment Training, What Does it Involve?

Many people who come to Associated Training Services are curious as to just what heavy equipment training involves. Our training programs are designed to prepare our students for a real workplace as much as possible and our heavy equipment training techniques are designed to get you there in a step-by-step process that is as efficient as possible.

We don’t want to waste your time or ours in your heavy equipment training, but we do want to be sure that you learn all of the components thoroughly. Your heavy equipment training will come in both theoretical and practical forms. Our theory lessons will give you a detailed knowledge of the heavy equipment that you are training to use. Our practical lessons will have you put that knowledge into practice as you would in a real workplace. As you gain more competence from your heavy equipment training, the difficulty of the practical lessons will progress. Our simulated work environments give you a real feel for what it is like to handle heavy equipment on the job.

If you have never done practical training before, it can be intense and even a little stressful. We are not naturally born with the skills that are required to run heavy equipment. They must be learned and then put into practice. It is our hope that you can go straight from our heavy equipment training into the workforce and our programs aim to prepare you to do just that. Heavy equipment training can be tough at times, but it is well worth the effort.

If you have any questions about our heavy equipment training programs, please do not hesitate to contact us at Associated Training Services.

Training to use heavy equipment is one of the smartest career decisions that any construction worker can make. If you have been involved in the unskilled labor side of construction, you will know exactly how limiting a lack of skills and certification can be. Most people are put off training by the expense and the time that is involved in order to get the certification that you need. These are both poor reasons not to do something that will make your life more financially stable and make your work easier.

Training costs money, that much is true. Training in heavy equipment can be quite expensive as well. It costs heavy equipment training schools like Associated Training Services a great deal of money to operate and provide services for the public. Finding the money for training can be hard, but it is worth it. Your salary increase will cover the expense in no time at all, by putting off heavy equipment training, you are essentially depriving yourself of a better standard of living. Even if you do not have the money up front, it is often possible to obtain financial aid.

There are people that will cite a lack of time as their reason for avoiding training. A full time job can make things difficult for a person that wants to take part in training, but it does not make it impossible. At Associated Training Services, we offer both a full time and a part time schedule. If you have the time, full time training will see you qualified as quickly as possible. If you are already working, our part time schedule is designed for people like you. Time is not a factor if you really want to improve your working conditions.

Enroll In Commercial Driver License (CDL) Training

Some ATS schools offer a combination Class-A (Tractor Trailer) and Commercial Driver Licensing (CDL) program. The CDL is required to haul your equipment on a flatbed/lowboy trailer and to drive dump trucks on public roads. ATS schools also teach off-road dump trucks, which do not require a CDL.

Many construction industry employers value equipment operators with a CDL. The CDL component trains you to test and receive a Class-A CDL. If you are planning on getting your Class-A CDL, you need to be aware that there are some additional fees related to this part of the program and those are not included in the tuition price. These fees include DOT physical exam, drug test, permit fee, road test, and license fee. These fees vary in price but can total as much s $300. These fees usually can be paid for with your financial assistance if you qualify.

Learning to Operate Loaders Makes a Great Career Move

Loaders might not be the heaviest of heavy equipment, but what they lack in size they make up for in versatility. The smaller size of loaders makes them useful in built up areas where larger heavy equipment won’t easily fit. Loaders are generally wheeled, not tracked, so they can operate on paved or sealed services without creating problems. Loaders bring heavy equipment to places that it might not otherwise fit.

There is a wide variety of attachments for loaders that can see them performing a range of tasks. While their traditional use is moving loads, these days they do quite a bit more. Different attachments really give loaders a full range of operation. They can be used to dig, as light dozers, or for their traditional purposes. Some loaders are tracked, but the majority is wheeled, their size makes them quite easy to maneuver and the learning process for most people is fast.

If you are thinking of learning to operate a loader, we can help. Our training schools throughout the country can train you in loader operation. We have a range of full time and part time programs so that you can earn your certification in a way that suits your schedule. Contact us at Associated Training Services if you believe that we can help you enter into an exciting new career with your loader certification.

A Rewarding Career in Excavators

Excavators are one of the biggest pieces of heavy equipment that most people will get to use. They are similar in appearance to backhoes, but larger. They are usually tracked and are sometimes referred to as trackhoes, diggers or simply as hoes. They are used for a range of excavation functions including digging trenches, holes and foundations. They can perform many other operations beyond digging, and support a range of hydraulic attachments. Excavators can be used for demolition jobs, heavy lifting, river dredging, mining (especially open pit) and brush cutting. They are extremely versatile and are used in almost all types of building site. They come in a range of sizes to suit applications of different scales.

Here at Associated Training Services, we have a nationally accredited excavator training program. We have professional instructors that will take you through your excavator training, both in the classroom and on a simulated building site. The goal of our training program is more than just getting you certified, it is about getting you employed. For this reason, we have a job placement program that places graduates of Associated Training Services at different companies around the country. We recognize that not all schedules are equal and that some people do not have the time for full time training. This is why we offer both full time and part time training schedules. We aim to be as flexible as you need.

Getting certification for excavators makes sense. Operators of excavators earn a good wage, the training does not take very long and operating heavy equipment is much lighter work than some other jobs on the building site. It is something that you can be just as capable of doing at the beginning of your construction career as at the end. If you have any questions about excavator training or any other type of heavy equipment training, do not hesitate to contact us at Associated Training Services.
